114 King St,
Thompson Insurance Agency Inc. was started by Luetta J. Thompson, my grandmother, in 1922 – who was a trendsetter back then with the first business working out of her home, as many of us are doing now since Covid-19. She later moved her office downtown to 114 King Street as an Independent Insurance Agency.
In 1952, her son Alvis W. Thompson, my father, came back to Keysville to work at Thompson Insurance. Prior to moving back home, Alvis served in the army during WWII and worked in the insurance industry in both New York and Washington, DC. My grandmother and father worked side by side for several years. They sold crop insurance to many tobacco farmers in their day, and we still have a few of their items today, here at the office.
In 1981, Peggy W. Agee joined the office as a licensed agent and has worked in the office ever since. She has been a loyal employee and part owner of Thompson Insurance Agency, Inc.
In 1987, I (Merrianne Thompson Dixon) joined my father and Peggy in the agency as a licensed agent. The three of us worked together for many years before his death in August 1995.
Today, Peggy and I continue working together at the agency, which is still located at 114 King Street in Keysville. Things have changed in our town over the years, but our slogan “Serves You First” remains.
We would like to say a special thank you to our loyal customers, without you Thompson Insurance Agency would not be celebrating its 100 th year!
Please come by the office on August 19th from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM for refreshments and to say hello. You can also enter your name in a drawing to win a prize, as we celebrate our 100 th year serving our community as an Independent Insurance Agency who “Serves You First”.
